Simon Bevan qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1984 with BDO LLP, the UK member firm of the 5th largest accountancy organisation in the world. He was made a partner in 1988.
Simon chaired BDO's Property Group between 1991 and 1995 and the Professional Practices Group from 1995 to 2000, having worked with professional partnerships since the mid 1980s. From 1996, he had involvement in the firm's management, first as the Management Executive member responsible for human resources - including partners and profit sharing - and then as Managing Partner and then Senior Partner.
He retired from BDO in June 2011 and is taking a career break in order to improve his Mandarin and travel.
Simon's client base included professional practices and entrepreneurial and fast growing service businesses. He acted as business adviser and auditor to a wide selection of professional service firms - property professionals, solicitors, management consultants and accountants. He has particular experience of helping professional firms to handle growth and succession issues, with outcomes ranging from partnership succession to trade sale. He has also advised on mergers, incorporation, LLPs, profit sharing and partnership disputes.
Simon assisted in the research and writing of Surveyors, Architects and Estate Agents, and Solicitors Accounts, both published by Accountancy Books and was the main author of Evolving Business Structures for Law Firms, published by Ark in 2010.
