David is Head of Public Policy at the law firm Macfarlanes and is a columnist with The New Statesman and Conservative Home. He was previously a Conservative MP and Government minister, serving in the Cabinet from 2016 to 2019 as Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Secretary of State for Work & Pensions, and Secretary of State for Justice and Lord Chancellor. From October 2024 to May 2025 he chaired the Independent Sentencing Review.
