Sarah Chilton - CM Murray LLP

Sarah Chilton is a Partner at CM Murray LLP specialising in partnership and employment law.

She is dual qualified to practice in England & Wales and Scotland and has represented clients in both the English and Scottish Courts.

Sarah advises partners, partnerships, LLP members and LLPs on a wide range of issues including: termination provisions and senior partner exits, protection of confidential information, remuneration structures and issues arising in relation to deferred remuneration and incentive plans, business reorganisation and redundancy, conduct and performance issues, whistleblowing and discrimination. 

Sarah regularly advises on cross-border issues involving multiple jurisdictions including the US, Russia, the Middle East and Europe and the Scottish law implications relating to funds using Scottish partnerships structures.

Aster Crawshaw, Honorary Secretary - Addleshaw Goddard LLP

Aster is a Partner in Addleshaw Goddard's Professional Practices Group. He is recognised as a leading adviser to professional services firms on transactions, advisory matters and partner disputes.

The Legal 500 cites Aster as a "leading individual" and has said that he has "great technical expertise", "clearly knows his stuff, is friendly, responsive and solution-oriented". Chambers ranks him in Band 1 for non-contentious partnership work and quoted a client as saying: "He is superb, everything that a trusted adviser should be: commercial, responsive and a pleasure to work with." Aster's transactional work includes mergers, acquisitions, disposals, joint ventures and LLP conversions. His advisory practice encompasses partnership agreements, governance, risk management and structuring issues. He has a particular interest in international structuring, including the establishment and operation of network structures (such as the Swiss Verein). On the contentious side, he assists firms and individuals with partner disputes, including team moves.

As well as professional services firms, Aster works with businesses in the financial services sector, including hedge funds and private equity houses, on the use of LLPs and partnerships.

Steve Gale, Honorary Treasurer - Crowe UK LLP

Steve Gale is lead audit and assurance partner in Crowe U.K. LLP's Professional Practices team.  He acts for a number of large firms in the accountancy, legal and consulting sectors and has a particular expertise in the financial and non-financial reporting requirements of limited liability partnerships. Steve sits on the working party responsible for the LLP SORP. He also has a portfolio of commercial clients and is one of the firms’ partners accredited to carry out listed company audits.

Having trained with Crowe U.K. LLP, Steve has been a partner for over 15 years and is Head of Professional Standards, leading the firm’s relationship with its regulators.

Jennifer Haywood - Serle Court

Jennifer Haywood is a barrister who practises from Serle Court. She has wide ranging experience of partnerships and LLPs across a range of business sectors. She has experience of resolving partnership disputes in many capacities, having advised and represented firms and partners in litigation and in arbitration and also having acted as a mediator (CEDR accredited) and as an arbitrator. Jennifer also carries out non-contentious partnership/LLP drafting and she is one of the editors of the LLP Legislation Handbook, alongside John Machell QC and James Mather. Anna Jarrold - BDO LLP

Anna is a tax partner at BDO and leads BDO’s Professional Services Tax team in the UK and specialises in advising UK and International Professional Service firms and partnerships. Sue Mawdsley - Legal Risk LLP

Sue is a solicitor and partner in Legal Risk LLP with over 30 years’ experience. She advises law firms and property professionals on risk management, claims prevention and regulatory compliance.  She has particular expertise in anti-money laundering and financial crime; advising firms on AML problems and compliance strategies. Sue has extensive experience of developing bespoke policies, controls and procedures for law firms, as well as helping them undertake risk assessments and AML audits.

She is described as “excellent” and “brilliant”  in Legal 500 2018 and is a ranked lawyer in Chambers UK 2019.

Karen McNicholls ACA, CTA (Fellow) - Deloitte LLP

Karen has been a member of Deloitte LLP since 2006 and leads Deloitte’s Professional Practices tax group nationally and also the London Private Markets tax group. 

Karen has advised partnership structures of various sorts for most of her 23 year career and advises many of the leading international and domestic professional services partnerships, principally in the legal sector, on all aspects of their partnership and corporate structures in the UK and abroad. She has advised on many of the M&A transactions that have taken place in the legal sector in recent years. Karen is author of Ray: Partnership Taxation, is a Chartered Accountant and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation (her thesis being on Property Investment Partnerships).

Martin Prentice MIoD, FCIB

Martin has over 40 years’ experience within Lloyds Banking Group, 30 years in management, 20 years in Corporate and Commercial Banking and over 15 years working in a number of Senior Management positions within a Professional Practices environment.

Until the end of 2016 Martin was a specialist Corporate Relationship Director in the London Professional Practices marketplace, with a high concentration in the Legal sector in the Mid Cap £100M turnover space.

In addition to being an APP Committee Member, Martin is a fellow of The Chartered Institute of Bankers (FCIB), and a member of both the Institute of Directors (MIoD) and the Non-Executive Directors’ Association.

Martin is currently an Ambassador, Professional and Financial Services for the Kent Branch of the Institute of Directors - IoD Kent.

Corinne Staves, Chair - Maurice Turnor Gardner LLP

Corinne Staves is a Partner at Maurice Turnor Gardner LLP.

Corinne advises on partnerships, limited partnerships and LLPs in relation to their use as professional practices, funds, fund managers, joint ventures and family wealth planning vehicles.  She also advises on UK and international estate planning.

As well as being a member of the Association of Partnership Practitioners, she is secretary of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, City Branch.
